Parents are invited to enroll their children in this year's "Vote For Books!  Elect to READ" program at the Port Chester Public Library.  Just because your child can't read yet doesn't mean he or she is too young to join our program.  "Vote For Books!  Elect to READ" is designed to have books read to children by parents, grandparents, siblings, baby-sitter, and others.  We want to help your child discover a lifelong love of books and learning.  Research has shown that an early introduction to books and involvement in reading programs does make a difference in a child's life.
  • Registration begins on Monday, June 2nd.
  • Children will be given a "Vote for Books!  Elect to READ" reading log to record the number of books that you are reading together.
  • Each time that you and your child come to the library, you will be able to put up a sticker on our bulletin board displays.
  • On Tuesday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m., we will have a "Vote for Books!  Elect to READ" party to celebrate the reading that you and your child did over the summer!

At sign-up, children will pledge the number of books they feel they can read by Wednesday, August 6th.  If the children read the number of books they pledged, they will receive a gold medal and be entered into our exciting Summer Reading Raffle held on Wednesday, August 6th, at 4:00 p.m.  In addition, if children read above the number they pledged, they will receive a special Summer Reader Surprise.

Please call 939-6710 ext. 108 with any questions.
